The Light Behind the Storm: 5 Great Things That Happened This Past Year

By Ishan Vijay

As I’m sure you are all aware by now, we are currently in the middle of a pandemic. We are coming up on the one year anniversary of the beginning of the Covid-19 madness and, to say the least, this past year has been crazy. With classes being transferred to online, campuses closing, and many major global events being shut down, it seems like there is a lot to be upset about.

With that being said, QCEI has tried to look on the bright side of things. There have been so many amazing things that have happened in 2020 and we believe it is super important to not discount all of the incredible things we accomplished as a society.

So, Here are 5 Great Things That Happened in 2020:

1. We Came Together As A Society To Fight Racial Injustice

This year we made incredible progress in the fight for justice and equality amongst our society. By attending Black Lives Matter protests, sparking discussions about systemic racism, and creating awareness by harnessing the power of social media, an impact on the world was made. This year, one great thing that happened was humanity taking a huge leap forward towards positive change.

2. We Spent Time With Our Family and Loved Ones

Even though the news of quarantine in March worried many of us, it is undeniable that being locked in a house with our family brought us closer. Although there were probably many inevitable arguments, the months that we had together bonded us to a level we could have never expected. We also gained an appreciation for the importance of family and learned to value the time that we have together

3. The Rise of TikTok

Now this one may be a bit controversial, but whether you like it or not, I think we can all agree that TikTok is addicting. This social media app has absolutely taken over the world this past year. With viral dances, comedy sketches, and even videos teaching you how to invest in stocks, this app has changed the way we live. It has provided us with a constant source of entertainment and I think it’s safe to say that TikTok has definitely made this past year more enjoyable.

4. Jennifer Lopez and Shakira’s Superbowl Halftime Show

It’s so hard to believe that this legendary performance was less than a year ago! In early February of 2020, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez took the stage at the Pepsi Superbowl Halftime Show. These two incredibly talented artists dominated the stage and performed hit songs like ‘Waka Waka’, ‘Jenny From The Block’, and ‘Hips Don’t Lie’.

5. Sweatpants Have Become Socially Acceptable

This last point is arguably the best thing that happened this past year. With ‘work-from-home’ increasing and online school becoming the new norm, our society has finally accepted the use of sweatpants and hoodies. All day. Everyday. I don’t know about you, but I can definitely say that rolling out of bed in my pajamas and going straight to class has been one of my favorite parts of this year.

We have also created a playlist of songs that the QCEI Executive Team loves to listen to whenever we need a boost of energy or some extra motivation to help us get through these hard times. Take a listen and we hope you enjoy!

Although this past year has been hard, it is our responsibility to always see the light in

difficult situations and make the most out of the cards we have been dealt.

Cheers to 2020 and let’s make 2021 even better!
