Nothing Funny About This Joker

Written by Tyson Kash

Joker, one of the most iconic villains of all time that has been interpreted time and time again, really reached it’s peak in 2008 with Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. After this performance it looked as though the character was untouchable, and that no one would be able to achieve this level of enveloping the character without being a method actor and driving themselves to complete insanity, as Ledger did himself.

But in came Joaquin Phoenix. Not only is his performance as the Joker an Oscar-worthy showing, but Phoenix made the character his own. Flipping the script from Ledger’s border-line terrorist interpretation, Phoenix plays a mentally unstable downtrodden man who we watch consistently get beaten down… until he snaps. If you are a scary-movie-lover, this is the film for you! This is no superhero movie folks, JOKER is a very dark, graphic, thriller; a perfect movie to kick off the spooky October season. But for all you Superhero lovers do not fret, JOKER is riddled with Easter Eggs. And do not worry I would not dare hint, let alone spoil a single thing; but DAMN… there are some major DC plot points, and cliff hangers thrown in there.

That is all I will say.

Overall, this is one of the best thrillers I have personally ever seen, and this is coming from a serious thriller lover myself. I would 100% recommend watching this on the big screen, as the cinematography is memorizing, and the uncomfortable, uneasy feeling you have leaving the theatre is incomparable. So, grab a buddy and roll out to your nearest Cineplex to enjoy one of the best movies of the year.

And, always remember to smile, though your heart is aching… smile even though it’s breaking…………………
