Getting to Know Our Music Locals: Meet The Tales

Updated: Oct 22, 2019

This up and coming rock band will hit home…literally! Coming from Queen's University itself, based in Kingston/Toronto, we present The Tales (@thetalesband). Members include Benny Fulton (drums and vocals), Max Fulton (guitar and vocals), Ben Dinsdale (base and piano), Sam Beber (guitar) and Matt Simpson (trumpet and harmonica).

It all started with two brothers who had a dream. Playing music from a very young age, Max and Benny were eager to both create and play in a band. In high school, they met Ben and bonded over their passion for music. The early stages of The Tales formed as they performed at school events and coffee houses. After attending Queen's, they met Sam who quickly joined as their second guitarist. The boys soon developed a loyal fan base in Kingston playing gigs in local bars, which led to the desire to become more creative with their sound. Matt, an old friend and experienced trumpet player soon completed the band.

By the end of the 2019 school year, The Tales recorded their first EP, "Of Our Youth", with Longshot Records. This project was inspired by musical influences the Beatles, Oasis, Mumford and Sons, The Band and the Black Keys. The coming of age album includes the songs Mr. Richards, Freeworld, The Break and Coming Home that range from early romances to the fear of not knowing what comes next.

Check out their EP here.

The Tales hope to continue growing with the goal to bring rock N rock back into mainstream music. Check them out in Toronto at The Horseshoe Tavern on August 27th. Can’t make it? You'll be sure to see them this year shredding the Brooklyn, the Brass and stages near you!
